I am the most unlucky person ever when it comes to earphones! I just can't seem to find a pair that will last any longer than 3 weeks. The only pair I've ever had that have withstood the excessive battering I give them, are the original, bland, white iPod headphones that you get with your device.
Despite them being strong, due to the constant tumbleweeding in my college bag, they're forever getting tangled ( the second bane of my life after my mammoth hair knots, see the pattern?!) and well, after spending some time scouring the internet for ideas on how to prevent the constant tangling, I came across Free Peoples wrapped earphones for $40... yes, that's $40 (That's £25 ish to us Brits!) for some earphones with a bit of wool wrapped around them! No me gusta! So, as per usual I thought, I could do that and here's what I did...
1. I went and bought some wool ( Psst! wool is 3 for 2 at Poundland, there's lots of cute pastel colours as well as the bright ones I picked!)
2. I learnt the basic right-hand double knot (aka the 4 braid!)
3. Started braiding after tying a normal knot to start me off and hold the wool tight! ( I did a 6cm braid of each colour)
Even though I found it tricky at first, I quickly got into it. Some adivice: Just make sure you do each braid tight and that you have a consitent swirl around your wires! ( Unless you want to have to unbraid the whole thing and start again as I did, which believe me, takes ages!) This DIY doesn't only look amazing but it also prevents your earphones from tangling too. WAHOO!
Difficulty: 3.5/10
Time: It took me 2 hours ( However, I was dancing around the room to Elvis at the same time and I made loads of mistakes from not following the instructions!)
Materials: Variety of wool & Earphones
